Hourly versus overnight stays: what's the difference, and which to pick

Almost everyone booking for the first time asks the same thing: how do hourly and overnight stays differ, and which should I choose? The answer depends on how long you need the room and at what point in the day. This article compares the two options across the 1001 Nights group, with reference rates and worked examples so the numbers make sense.

What is an hourly stay?

An hourly stay means renting a room for a short period, charged by the hours you use rather than for a full day and night.

  • Available between 09:00 and 23:30.
  • From 250,000 VND for the first 2 hours.
  • From the third hour onwards you're charged by the hour; any part-hour of 15 minutes or more rounds up to a full hour.
  • However long you stay, the total for one hourly booking never exceeds the nightly rate for that room.

This suits you when you need a clean, private space for a few hours and don't need to sleep over.

What is an overnight stay?

An overnight stay means taking the room for a full check-in to check-out cycle.

  • Check in from 14:00.
  • Check out by 12:00 the following day.
  • 600,000 to 1,250,000 VND depending on the category, from the 25 to 30 sqm rooms up to premium categories such as Muse and Signature or the 50 sqm room with its own kitchen.

This is the sensible choice when you want a proper rest, a night's sleep, or simply more time to enjoy the room.

Worked examples

Suppose you check in at 14:00 and expect to leave at 17:00 — a 3-hour hourly stay:

A Deluxe room at Vạn Phát Hotel for an overnight stay
A Deluxe room at Vạn Phát Hotel for an overnight stay
  • First 2 hours: 250,000 VND.
  • Third hour: charged at the additional-hour rate for your category — reception will quote it exactly when you book on 0961 636 390. Additional hours currently run from 100,000 to 150,000 VND, depending on the room and the property.
  • However many hours you add, the total for that stay will not exceed the nightly rate for that category (600,000 – 1,250,000 VND). That rule applies across the group.

Another example: check in at 22:30 on a Wednesday on an hourly booking, and the first 2 hours (normally 250,000 VND) drop by 150,000 VND under the late check-in offer — around 100,000 VND.

When to choose which

A few real situations to make it concrete:

  • A business traveller waiting for a flight: needs a few hours to rest and shower before the airport → hourly, and cheaper.
  • A couple meeting in the afternoon: wants somewhere private and quiet for a few hours without staying over → hourly makes sense.
  • A married couple wanting a few hours to themselves in the day: between work commitments, just a couple of hours to unwind → hourly, in a quieter slot for more choice of room.
  • Someone travelling in from another province for a medical appointment: after a tiring morning, a clean room to lie down in for a few hours before heading home → hourly, no need for a whole day.
  • An anniversary or birthday with an overnight stay: wanting a full night together with time to sleep properly → overnight, so nothing is cut short.

If you're unsure, call the hotline on 0961 636 390. Reception is available 24/7 and will advise based on what you need and when you're coming.

The after-22:00 offer

Check in after 22:00, Sunday to Thursday, and 150,000 VND comes off immediately. It applies to hourly guests arriving late in the evening.

On top of that, if you check in after midnight, check-out extends to 14:00 the next day — so you can sleep properly instead of getting up in a rush.

Frequently asked questions

Are there hidden surcharges on an hourly stay?

In principle the hourly rate covers the first 2 hours, with additional hours charged on top, and the total capped at the nightly rate. Any extra services are quoted by reception before you confirm. Possible extras are: a third guest (100,000 VND hourly, 250,000 VND overnight), changing rooms by choice more than 10 minutes after check-in (250,000 VND cleaning fee), and early check-in or late check-out for overnight guests (100,000 to 150,000 VND per hour).

Can I switch from hourly to overnight partway through?

Speak to reception at the desk or on the hotline (0961 636 390) and they'll arrange it if a room is free. In practice you usually don't need to: the hourly charges accumulate and stop automatically once they reach the nightly rate for that category, so staying longer than planned never costs more than a night.

Is there a discount for an hourly stay late at night, after 22:00?

Yes. Guests checking in after 22:00 from Sunday to Thursday get 150,000 VND off the bill.

Do I need to book before arriving?

Call the hotline on 0961 636 390 or message us on Zalo or Messenger first, so reception can hold the category you want — particularly in the busy evening hours.

Can I check out earlier than 12:00 on an overnight stay?

Yes, with no additional charge. If you need to leave later than 12:00, tell reception in advance and they'll arrange it subject to availability. For overnight guests the latest check-out is 12:00 the following day; beyond that there's a surcharge of 100,000 to 150,000 VND per hour depending on the room. Hourly guests are not subject to this.

Book today: Call the hotline on 0961 636 390 (24/7), or message us on Zalo or Messenger, and reception at 1001 Nights will suggest the right category and time slot. If this is your first hourly booking, see our guide to booking an hourly hotel for the first time.
