Christmas Eve is one of the two fastest-selling nights of the year in Ho Chi Minh City, alongside New Year. Here is what to decide early: how far ahead to book, which room, and how to plan around the traffic.
Unlike single-evening occasions, Christmas demand runs for a week: guests start going out around 20 December and the peak is Christmas Eve. Rooms sell out gradually over those days rather than all at once. Book two to three weeks ahead.
Most couples arrive after a long evening out, so warmth matters more than grandeur. The 30m² Romantic is the easiest to get late; the Couple Bath Room or room 1101 for a soak; the star-ceiling rooms photograph best at Christmas; Van Phat Hotel if you are already downtown.
District 1 is busiest between 20:00 and 23:00. Check in before you go out rather than after, or go early and be back by 21:00. The three hotels in Trung Son sit outside the congestion, 10–15 minutes from the centre.
